How do you keep up with technology?

In our modern world, technology keeps getting better and better by the day. The prices of these electronic devices have greatly gone down in the past 10 years. A lot of computers are getting replaced by the day but the big question that comes into our mind is that “How do you keep up with technology”?

The time gap for replacing a computer has greatly decreased nowadays. Before, you can replace your computer in every five years but now, things have changed and the rapid advance in technology makes it hard for us to keep up with the current technology.

For example, 10 years ago, the fastest computer would not be more than 1 GHz and to have a computer that has 1 GHz would cost you a fortune. Now, you can get a dual-core computer at a speed of 3.2 GHz x2 at the same price that it was for the 1 GHz computer. It is simply amazing how things could change in past 10 years and the technological gap that is increasing by day is leaving us outdated in just merely a couple of years.

To keep with technology, you have to think and act wisely. One of the few questions that would reach your mind is that “How much are you ready to invest in and how long do you plan on keeping this before you will get a new replacement for it?” It is very obvious that you have to change a computer which costs you $500 more often than when you buy a computer which costs you $1000. A good way to check the requirements of what you need in your computer is to check with the most advanced software that you can find and stay with its minimum requirement.

A few softwares such as Adobe Photoshop CS3 requires you to have a high end computer but what you have to take into account is its minimum requirement. How much memory does it require for the program to be able to run? What is the minimum processing speed? These things need to be taken into consideration when buying a computer.

We’ll make an example with Jack. Jack needs a new computer and he would consider buying one that would keep up with the future technology in the next 4 to 5 years. The minimum that he would have to spend would be at least $800 to $1000. It is most likely that he would get computer with a minimum 2GB memory with at least a 2.4 GHz dual core processing speed. This would keep him on track with the future technological advances that is soon to come.

There are no disadvantages of being patient. The more patient you are, the better the results would be. It is very hard for us to keep up with the current technology and the only way we could do that is to think wise and to act wise. Do not think of what you currently require but think of what you would also require in the future.

Backup How-To's: Home Backup: Hard Disk Imaging and Cloning

Continuing on from the previous article of the Backup How-To series, in this article we will learn about another approach to data backup called HDD image backup. Image-based backup is fundamentally different from files-based method and provides higher speed and accuracy of backups. However, it has its own disadvantages which we will discuss below.
Definition of Image Backup
The term "image backup" or "disk image" assumes a complete copy of a hard drive which is created on a sector-by-sector basis without querying the file system. Due to its nature, HDD imaging can be used to back up data that can't be accessed on a file level, e.g. boot records. Usually it is used to create a complete snapshot of a hard drive or disk partition and back it up as a whole.
System Backup
The first and probably the most important advantage of drive imaging is its capability to back up operating system. This is of great value in terms of protection against complete drive failure, because recovering a file backup implies correct functioning of the OS which in this case needs to be set up from scratch. Restoring an image backup allows bringing the system to a working state in a matter of minutes.
Program Backup
Another advantage of image-based backup is that it helps protecting programs installed in your system. If you're more or less experienced PC user, you must know that simple copying of program files from one computer to another doesn't guarantee that the program will work. At the same time, image backup includes absolutely all data and its restoration guarantees proper operation of all applications.
Advanced Usage of Image Backup
Disk imaging lies in the principle of all HDD cloning software. By making an image backup of one hard disk and restoring it to a different device, you receive a drive with absolutely similar contents. The same idea can be successfully applied if you need to set up multiple identical computers. If you enjoy testing different hardware, or if you are famous as a nerd-next-door who is always ready to help with computers, you will certainly find it of great usefulness.
Disadvantages of Image Backup
Unlike common file-based backup, drive imaging can be hardly used to back up specific files and folders. Since it doesn't query the file system, there is no way to differentiate which sectors are "important" for the user and which are not. Therefore, it has to be a full backup which costs more time and disk space.

Increasing your virtual customer base, do not forget about business in reality. Remember that the online shop and real business must work together. It means that website is one more office or shop for your business in cyber space. One is an extension and continuation of the other. It is important to create such a website which reflects the main stream and character of your business as well as bringing in new clientele.  On planning a website, divide this process into several steps. A good arranged plan is a half way for success.  You may have a look at our proposed steps.

Step one. First of all, you have to Identify The Mission of Your Project in the online marketing arena. Then you must determine short-term and long- term aims and objectives of your site. Think about target audience of your website. Then it is time to consider the functionality. Site content must be relevant to the topic as well as updated and fresh.
The Second step regards Development and Design. You have to consult with a web design company about style, size of your site as well as discuss stages of web design and development performance. You can propose your vision, and they will express their opinion. Thus you will find a common consensus.  After the general decision is undertaken, the time is then set for the designers and programmers. Cooperating with each other they build, construct and test your site.
The Third step is your Review and Advice. Development of your site is offline, so you can have access to the all stages of the process. This is greatly needed as you can give your views and feedback. Your review helps to go in the right direction. Also it is considered necessary that checking of your site in various browsers should be made. Before your site goes online you must be sure that all is working well. Once the tests are over your website is ready to be launched and presented to the public. We have spoken about the technological side of website building.
The Fourth thing is SEO. Once the website is complete you need to promote it. Search engine optimization or website promotion is a powerful marketing tool. You must arrange a good marketing tactic. Promotion strategy is the key factor in online business. How does it work? As long as key-words and phrases are indentified, the site then must be processed for submitting to the search engines. The goal is to get high page ranking in the search engine results. As long as your site is an integral component of advertising campaign, you will need a professional consultant. Birmingham Web Design company can help you to promote your site.

The Last step is Safety and Updates. To give the finishing touches to your site, take care of security and updating. Regarding firstly, that all information you provide to the website design company must be protected. Added to this, as your business grows you will have to update your site with the current news and forthcoming events. Visitors will expect it and clients will think that the site is working and always is updated, and thus trust such a company.

Interview with Matt Mullenweg

Matt Mullenweg is a 23 years old boy born in Houston, Texas, that works in Automattic, a company founded by him in 2005.

It doesn't seem an interesting news, but Matt Mullenweg happens to be the creator of WordPress.
I've asked Matt a short interview fot italian people and he gave me it, by return email.
Q - Why do you decided to release WordPress free?
A - I think it's inevitable that all major software development is open source. Most software suffers from obscurity, not monetization.
Q - Are you satisfied for the success of WordPress?
A - It's been good so far, but I think we're just at the beginning of how it's going to grow.
Q - What's the future of WordPress?
A - The future is in the hand of our users, who drive all of the development.
Q - Can you draw up statistics about the popularity of your CMS?

A - We have over a million blogs on WordPress.com, and estimate there are 1-2 million who self-host.
Q - What's, in your opinion, the secret of the success of WordPress?
A - There's no secret, it's just a lot of hard work and attention to detail.
Q - What are your future projects?
A - I'd like to make all aspects of managing a site and community as effortless as WordPress has made publishing.
Q - Have the blogs changed the way to communicate?
A - No.
Q - Why the name "WordPress" and who designed the logo?
A - Jason Santa Maria designed the logo. The name was from my friend Christine, I liked it because it evoked sort of an old-school publishing mentality.

Q - Which has been the bigger difficulty to make the WordPress project?
A - I would say we've learned a ton along the way both about building scalable software and managing a large community, the latter has been the hardest.
Q - I have noted that a web site made by WordPress gets a good positioning. Does Google love WordPress or is there another reason?
A - I think Google loves WordPress.

Directory Submissions: The Ways And Means Of Building Massive Inbound Links

Do some extra reading on directory submissions online and you’ll find a lot of opinions on the subject, most of them based on old information or a misinterpretation of recent developments. An effective directory submission process is reliant on two very important marketing principles:

Driving traffic to your website

Building link popularity to your website
Driving Traffic Through Directory Submissions
Directory submissions are effective in driving traffic to your website for one reason and one reason only: People interested in visiting sites like yours visit those directories to find what they are looking for and they typically find the directory in one of two ways:
Through a search query at one of the search engines
By referral from someone they know and trust
It doesn’t really matter how a visitor who visits your website found the directory that lead them there. The important thing is that someone found you through a directory. But if you don’t submit your site to the directory then no one can find you. Directories don’t crawl websites like search engines do so the only way your site can be listed in a directory is if someone submits it there.
Using Directory Submissions To Build Link Popularity
Link popularity is the measure of your website’s inbound links. Many people think it boils down to the number of links that point to your website, but that’s only a part of the equation. The other part is the quality of the links and that quality is measured by several factors as well. Some of the factors that influence link popularity include:

Age of the website linking to you
Authority of the website that links to you
The relevance in topic or subject matter of the website linking to you
The above three factors as they pertain to the specific page linking to you
Anchor text, or specific words and phrases, used to link to your website
How quickly your link popularity develops
Diversity of link mix

Virtually everyone who understands link building agrees on the first six factors of the link popularity equation. Where much of the confusion comes in is when discussions about link diversity come up. In a word, the search engines don’t like to see all of your links coming from the same type of website or websites of a particular nature. That is, if you build up 1,000 links in a single day and all of them are from directories then that might not help you much with the search engines. On the other hand, if you build up your link popularity slowly and include links from sources other than directories, 1,000 links from general website directories could very well be a positive.

Directory Submissions Are Not The Devil’s Girlfriend

One common misconception about directory submissions is that they are no longer effective. This just simply isn’t true. Google doesn’t favor one directory over any other. It does, however, discount links from link farms and bad neighborhoods. That’s why it is important to choose your directories carefully.

What it boils down to is why you are seeking a link from a directory in the first place. Search engines don’t want you building links just so you can increase your search engine rankings. They want you to build links in a natural way. That’s why directory submissions are not a bad thing if you add those submissions to a diversified portfolio of links rather than focus on directory submissions alone.

Components You Will Need to Assemble Your Own PC

Case – Perhaps the most obvious part of the computer is the bit you’ll see while using it. The computer’s case is what holds everything together and is where you can really give it a unique look. Cases come in a variety of colours and with various patterns so you can use this to really personalise your PC and help it make a statement.

Power cable – You will need a power supply to actually power the components you’re using. While it may seem an obvious choice, that’s what makes it so easily overlooked among CPUs and RAM.

Monitor – Obviously without a monitor you won’t be able to see what your computer is doing which makes using it a bit tricky. These are external and there are various aspects to consider when picking one including size and resolution. The best monitors are flat screen and HD though you may also want to look into projectors or set ups utilising multiple monitors.

Speakers – For hearing your computer. You may wish to look into surround sound set ups etc.

Keyboard & Mouse – These are necessary for input and are easily changeable. Again there are various options for the keyboard and mouse and you may wish to play with wireless and ergonomic options.

CD/DVD-Drive – Most likely you will now want a writeable DVD drive but should also look into the speed of the drive for programmes that are required to run from the disk and copy speed.

Motherboard – The motherboard is what ties your computer together and connects all the other components which will be fastened to the board. They are distinct from a backplane in that they normally house the CPU.

IDE cables – These thick cables can be used to connect components not mounted onto the motherboard.

CPU – The CPU, or ‘Central Processing Unit’, could be described as the CEO of your computer and is used to perform most of the computational processes. How fast your processor is will determine how quickly your computer is capable of running, how well it copes with running multiple programmes, and whether or not you can play the top end computer games. Today you should look at around 2GHZ or above for your processor to make sure it’s capable of running all the latest software and games.

Cooling System – CPUs unfortunately have a bad habit of getting very hot which means you’ll need to find a method to keep the temperature inside your tower down. There are various options here, but a fan or liquid cooling system are the two most common.

RAM (memory) – RAM, or ‘Random Access Memory’, is additional memory that your computer uses in order store bits of information while it does calculations etc. In this way it is the equivalent of your brain’s short term memory. Here you can make do with 1 Gigabyte but it is advisable to look into at least 4, particularly if you are going to be running Windows Vista.

Hard Drive – The hard drive is another crucial component for any PC as it is what stores all your long term data. Programmes will utilise it to store installation files, and you’ll need it yourself to save documents and media files. Today anything around 250 gigabytes is acceptable, though if you want a truly high performance machine then hard drives over a terabyte (1024 gigabytes) are available.

Graphics card – The graphics card handles your computer’s graphics and without one you won’t be able to display the crisp images your desktop would otherwise be capable of. For those who intend the computer for casual/business use 256-512mb is serviceable, but for those who are interested in high end gaming you should look into 2-4GB graphics cards.

Sound card – The equivalent of your graphics card… but for sound.

Modem – The best PCs today have in-built wireless modems.

Simple Tips to Keep Your PC virus-free

When you first get a new PC it can feel like a dream machine – running quickly and smoothly without crashing or displaying irritating pop-ups. However it only tends to take a few months before everything's back to normal and your once pristine super-computer is back to running at a crawl and laden with viruses and adware. The key then is prevention rather than cure, and by following a few simple tips you can keep your new PC virus free.

The first thing to do when setting up a new computer is to install a firewall. While virus checkers scan your computer for viruses, a firewall will alternatively prevent them from getting in the first place. This is particularly important for when you travel online, as the minute your computer connects to the internet it will likely be bombarded by a barrage of viruses and other malicious software. With a firewall you can block these attacks and monitor exactly which programs are allowed access to your computer and your connection. There are many programs that will do this for you for free too – just search Google for 'free firewall download'. Similarly you should set up new computers with anti-spyware software

Of course this is a slight case of chicken and egg, as you often need to go online in the first place in order to find the downloads which can leave you vulnerable for a short time – particularly as sites that provide free software are often dodgy. One solution is to transfer installation files from your old PC or from a friend so that you can install them without going online. In the case of Windows Vista however it’s much easier as Vista comes with a built-in firewall and built in anti-spyware called 'Windows Firewall' and 'Windows Defender' respectively, which will serve the same purpose.

The next thing to do is to set up an anti-virus programme. These will perform regular sweeps of your computer to find and destroy viruses (you decide how regularly) and will update themselves to ensure they always have access to the latest virus definitions (make sure you tell your firewall to allow access from anti-virus software). New viruses and spyware are being developed all the time however and this will mean your computer is susceptible unless you keep your software up-to-date. If you suspect your computer is acting unusual then you can manually run a virus check to ensure it’s not a virus causing the problems.

With these things in place you computer should now be protected against most attacks. However there are still a few tips you can adhere to help your computer out. The first is to install Firefox, which is an alternate browser to Explorer and is slightly less susceptible to adware and spyware. At the same time while browsing the internet try to avoid sites that you suspect might be bad for your computer – anything that contains a lot of free downloads or torrents. In fact file sharing programmes in general should be avoided. Similarly be careful when opening e-mail attachments, and never click on one unless you know who it's from and what it is.

Types of Memory Storage

Every time one buys a new mobile or camera they hear about a completely different type of memory card being used. This is an attempt to list some of the commonly used memory chips.

SD Card - The SD card, which stands for Secure Digital, is the most basic form of memory card and the precursor to the SDHC, Micro SD and other forms of flash memory cards. They are very small and thin and can hold as little as 32kb up to 2gb. They are also highly compatible and can be used with most digital cameras, PDAs and smart phones. As the oldest form of memory card they are the best option for older models which can sometimes struggle with larger sizes. Today they are also incredibly cheap and so for backing up small files or for low-spec gadgets such as digital photo frames they are still a good purchase.

Micro SD Card - The micro SD card is simply a smaller-sized SD. This means that they are more suitable for even smaller appliances such as mp3 players designed for running. Using an adapter the Micro SD card can be adapted to fit SD card slots while the larger sized cards cannot be adapted to fit smaller slots. This makes them slightly more versatile, though they are prone to getting lost due to their miniature stature and are marginally more expensive than SD cards.

Mini SD Card - The mini SD card is a size between the SD and micro SD. This can cause some confusion so it’s important to ensure that the card is the correct size before making a purchase. Again many micro secure digital cards can be used in the place of the mini SD using an adaptor.

SDHC Card - The SDHC card stands for Secure Digital High Capacity. These expand on the SD cards by providing up to 30gb more storage space making them capable of up to 32gb at a now fairly affordable price. While older electronic devices may struggle with SDHC cards, most gadgets now support them. It is common to find SDHC cards mistakenly referred to as ‘SD’ cards, so be sure to check which is meant.

Micro SDHC Card - The micro SDHC card is simply the smaller SDHC card, allowing for high capacity in smaller devices and again offering the option to adapt for use with regular-sized SDHC slots.

Mini SDHC Card - The high capacity mini SD.

SDXC Card - The SDXC is the next step in terms of memory card capacity, promising up to two terabytes of storage space. For a rough idea of just how much space that represents, psychologists have estimated the human brain to have a capacity of just 10 terabytes, meaning that an SDXC card will give your device one fifth of your memory power...  SDXC stands for Secure Digital Extended Capacity, and while SDXC cards have already been released they have not yet reached their potential with only 32gb available at the time of writing. No doubt micro and mini SDCX cards will follow.

How Many Directory Submissions Do You Need?

How many directory submissions do you need to get the back links that you want?

The answer, of course, is the proverbial "it depends." Back links don't come easy, but directory submissions make it appear so. How many you need to succeed at getting the search engine rankings you want, however, is a question that bears no easy answer. There are generally two approaches to link building through directory submissions.

The Quality Approach: Some people caution against too many directory submissions and say that you should only go for the quality submissions, but quality is difficult to measure. Generally, the quality directories that are mentioned are the ones that everyone knows about – DMOZ, BOTW, Yahoo!, etc. But those are not the only directories that give back links and if you listen to the quality gurus then you'll end up paying $10-$50 for every single directory submission you attempt. Not a smart move, especially if you have a tight budget.

The Quantity Approach: The quantity approach is all about getting as many directory submissions as you can. People who use this approach will go on and on forever looking for directories to submit their website to and make sure that no directory is left out. That's all well and good, but some discretion is in order because some directories act as nothing but link farms and you could be associating yourself with bad neighborhoods. These bad neighborhoods won't help you any with the search engines. In fact, they may even harm you.

The Hybrid Approach To Directory Submissions: The approach that I prefer is affectionately called The Hybrid Approach. It recognizes that both quantity and quality are important. You want as many GOOD directory submissions as possible. That means you have to rule out certain directories due to reputation. Even by ruling out the bad directories, there are still thousands of general website directories available to the average webmaster and almost all of them provide good back links. There is a virtual gold mine of linking opportunities for the webmaster who is interested in hunting them down.

So how many directory submissions do you need? 100? 1,000? 10,000?

I'd say there is no right answer. You can stop at 100, but that won't be enough for most webmasters to achieve high rankings with backlinks. 1,000 is better, but it’s always best to throw in a little diversity in terms of your anchor text and the pages of your site that you link to. In other words, you need to do some deep linking with relevant anchor text appropriate for each page of your website and not just the home page. That's probably the biggest mistake new webmasters make in their directory submissions campaigns.

To be effective, a directory submissions campaign should focus on multiple pages of your website, multiple anchor text phrases for each of your pages, and multiple website directories.

If you target each your key phrases and match those key phrases to the best page on your site that is relevant to that key phrase and submit it to 1,000 directories over a reasonable period of time you'll see a marked difference in your link popularity and in your search rankings. Wait a reasonable period of time and do it again and you'll see more great benefits. The bottom line on directory submissions is it never ends. Not if you want to do it right.

ogni 14 applicazioni gratuite scaricate, ne viene scaricata 1 a pagamento.

SEO: regole base (mini guida)

Tag title, description e keywords:

Come ottenere traffico web gratis e popolarità in internet usando strumenti gratuiti?
